Last night the one-liners kept on rolling from the beginning of Chris Rock's monologue to the end of the show. (He candidly ended with a shoutout to #BlackLivesMatter.) However, the Internet was quick to call him sexist when he lightheartedly made fun of the "Ask Her More" campaign. This campaign started in 2014 with the goal of asking women on red carpets more questions besides "Who are you wearing?" Chris Rock reminded the viewers "Not everything is sexism. Not everything is racism."

In the fashion game, celebrities are given diamonds and couture worth millions to wear down the red carpet during award season. A-list actresses are hand-picked by the designer house to wear their gowns because they "fit their aesthetic" or their market. The ladies get a free haute couture dress for the night and in return the designer house gets free promotion. (When in doubt, assume anything in the media is a PR tactic.) So let the ladies talk about the designers they're wearing because no one cares about your Armani suit...unless you're Jacob Tremblay.

Squeaky Clean: Skincare Routine

Squeaky Clean: Skincare Routine

Last month, I promised an updated skin care routine. So many celebrities and fashion collections began embracing "natural" make-up looks, which validated the importance I place on my skincare.(After all the best base for a great make-up look is healthy skin.) I also just wanted to share the products I've been using recently and how I've changed my mind on others.

Many people tend to switch their skincare products when the weather changes. The combination of LA's sunny weather and my relatively problem-free skin make me somewhat of an exception to that rule. Instead, my skin care routine changes on the products I use up first or if I notice a specific problem affecting my skin. I have sensitive and oily skin, so I have a few products catering to my skin type. There are also a few other products that work for me that are created for all skin types. Let me walk you through my skincare routine.

NYFW Fall 2016 Ready-to-Wear

NYFW Fall 2016 Ready-to-Wear

Just like that Fall 2016 Ready-to-Wear comes to a close. My NYFW post from the SS16 season is my most popular post to date, so I figured I would continue to re-cap some of my favorite collections until I have the pleasure of complaining about #NYFWProblems. I wouldn't call myself a fashion expert, but I look at fashion collections in the same way I do tattoos: I can admire them based on the message/theme, the look, or a combination of the two.

Like my last post, I grouped certain collections together. A few of them shared similar influences, but were executed in different ways. The themes I created for this season are: Renegades, (New) Americana, Movie Muse, and Psychedelic.

I attempted to keep my commentary concise and entertaining. Keep on reading and let me know how I did.

Slow Down

Today marks the beginning of NYFW, leading us into the frenzy of Fashion Month. This year, some of the best minds in the game have critiqued the schedule and turn over rates of all these collections and how that's affecting brand aesthetics and the way we all spend our money. Womanswear, menswear, and pre-collection shows happen in January, February, June, July, September, and December, depending on one of the three categories of shows. So many designers are ditching this traditional calendar for consumer-facing shows. (This is the only time I'm appreciative of capitalism.) But why change, you ask? The speedy traditional timeframe allows fast-fashion stores to pick up on the trends and send them off before ready-to-wear is...ready.

I'm sure we've all seen and bought handbags that are one stop short of being a complete knock-off or seen cuts and prints EXACTLY like those off the runway. (See my Celiné-inspired handbag that I wore too much last year. It was an embarrassing period.) Not only is it insulting to the aesthetic of a brand (especially one you hope to own for real one day), but it's bad for the green in your wallet and on our planet. So, what's a girl to do?

Between striving to fulfill New Year's resolutions and getting back into my school routine, most of my monthly favorites have been movies and music as opposed to physical things. I have been spending far too much time and money at the movies this month as I try to see all the Oscar-nominated films. Award season is the best season, let's be real. I had a few "actual" favorites along with my monthly playlist. Keep on reading to see what I discovered and loved during the month of January!
