Karlie Kloss for Wall Street Journal Magazine

With men's fashion week ending and the beginning of Haute Couture week and fashion month, trying to predict upcoming trends becomes messy. However, there have been many microtrends taking over designer houses and high-street fashion alike. (Most recently I talked about blush, the new monochrome.) Back in September, I assembled a list of my favorite designers and trends for the upcoming Spring/Summer season. One of the collections that blew me away was Karen Walker's sci-fi inspired line. It seems that this collection, along with Hollywood's love for films like The Martian and Star Wars: The Force Awakens, has brought planetary prints into the spotlight. It's only a matter of time until fast fashion stores catch on. I'm really excited about this one because it's reinforcing my love of space and sci-fi novels.

There are many different ways to wear this. The first, and easiest, way is to find pieces with space-themed prints from constellations, to rocket ships, and of course a good ol' NASA logo. Stars have become the new polka-dots. To ensure you look more like Zenon and less like Uncle Sam, take tips from Karen Walker's line by pairing these pieces with metallic pieces, flare denim, or knit ribbed tops. Jumpsuits are often associated with space for obvious reasons, but corduroy and pinafore dresses are going to be far more spring-appropriate. Stand out even more with fur outerwear. If you wanted to take cues from Rey, I suggest an all monochromatic grey look along with a pair of Yeezy Boosts 750. (We can all dream.)
Click below to shop some of my favorite star-studded pieces. Catch me looking like a Space Cowboy soon. Look out for a Couture and Fashion Week post coming soon!
