This past week I spent my spring break back home in southern California. It was so refreshing to finally feel the warmth of the sun on my skin again. The overall silhouette of this outfit is pretty "baggy" and feels very Californian to me.  I guess it's because anything that can be described as flowy captures California's relaxed vibe. This eyelet peasant top is going to be a staple in my closet this year since it's cute and airy. Essentially, I won't be sweating over any potential sweat marks on my clothes. As for my jeans, I never understood the association between loose jeans and boyfriends. If anything, I appreciate boys who wear jeans skinnier than my own.

Music Fest Inspiration

I always have music festivals on my mind. It's like a fever you can't sweat out. Before one is over, you already have to think about purchasing tickets to the next. Music festivals signify the beginnings of spring and summer. So whether you're going to a festival or streaming it online, here are some essential pieces for the next few months.

Essentially this little segment of my blog is a way for me to showcase outfits I liked, but with photos that just didn't make the cut for Instagram. Last weekend I went to New York for Teen Vogue's Fashion University, so before the panels began I played tourist for a day. I went to the Top of the Rock bought a hat to support my fave, Jimmy Fallon. That's pretty much as touristy as my purchases got. Overall I had the most amazing weekend and TVFU inspired me so much I have so many ideas for content on this blog! Stay tuned for more content!

New York Fashion Week, specifically designers Karen Walker, Derek Lam and Rebecca Minkoff, made it clear that the 90s revival is over. It's all about the 70s so bring on the fringe, suede and so much camel outerwear that Kim K can't possibly wear it all on her own. Now we can all stop comparing our style to Cher from Clueless and channel Penny Lane from Almost Famous instead. (Except Penny Lame would never wear band tees.) I dressed up the whole outfit with this statement necklace I bought last year as a feeble attempt to add a bohemian vibe to my closet. As for my coat, I found it in the sale section of Forever 21.  It would be better for those suited in temperate climates, rather than the freezing cold. Suede (faux or not) will probably be the only main trend I will be wearing since I hate fringe almost as much as I hate tattoo chokers. The day I wear anything with fringe will probably be the same day I figure out how to my hair in a ponytail without looking bald.

Here's a little compilation of things I discovered during February.

  •  Cold-pressed juice: Over the past month I followed a ton of different food instagrams so I would have a reason to take the L besides going between home and class. Because of it, I have renewed my love for pressed juice. (I know, very stereotypical southern Californian of me.) The top row is from a pressed juicery called Harvest Juicery. The middle row is from my new favorite juice place called Owen + Alchemy. They even had blended bowls, like acai bowls, which are a rare find in the city.
  • Almond milk lattes: For a while I tried teaching myself to drink coffee black or with minimal amounts of sugar. It didn't really work well, but I found I love almond milk lattes. The cliché latte picture is from a café called Dollop Coffee Company, near the downtown campus of my university. I'm pretty sure it's a franchise around Chicago.
  • Iron Maiden shirt: My last favorite is this Iron Maiden shirt I got from Topshop. When I bought it I broke one of my own personal rules: don't wear a band tee if you don't listen to them. In reality, though, if I only limited myself to artists I do listen to I'd probably be sporting a Beyoncé shirt all the time. Besides, Topshop was having a "buy one get one free" deal on their sale section so technically I didn't even spend money on this tee. I love it because it's easy to dress up and down, which is probably why I wear it multiple times a week.
Here's my playlist for the month. Some of my favorites are:
  • Greek Tragedy by The Wombats (one of my favorite bands ever, give their song "Emoticons" a listen too)
  • Homesick by Catfish and the Bottlemen
  • Salt by Bad Suns (their vibe just makes me miss California)
  • Someone New by Hozier
  • Octahate by Ryn Weaver
  • Fade Away by Susanne Sundfør
